Merlin Software has been providing innovative software solutions to SME’s for more than 40+ years, with a specialised business management system designed for the retail, rural, automotive and hardware industries. Merlin is proudly South Australian owned and operated – a family company at heart – working with clients across Australia. 

Our software, Cobalt Retail, is a fully integrated and flexible system to track and report on all facets of your business. The software runs from our dedicated, purpose-built Cobalt Enterprise Server and includes comprehensive technical support and standard quarterly upgrades.



In 1981, Kevern Kendle (CPA), founded his own business – Kendle Computer Services – to provide management and financial consulting services to South Australian small businesses. It quickly became apparent that computers would play a key role in the future of this market sector, and so the company focused on the supply and support of business computer systems.

From 1984, the company focused on retail point of sale software, becoming the master distributor for Breeze Software in SA, WA and the NT. With the onset of internet tools and the emerging Windows operating systems, the company moved to developing our own software for point of sale and accounting programs, built on over 20 years of experience in the industry.


Merlin Software, as it is today, was launched in 2000. Cobalt Retail, our tailored software program, was released in 2012. Cobalt Retail is a fully integrated system to track income, expenses, wages and stock, provide detailed reports, manage multiple locations and facilitate ecommerce. The program runs from our dedicated, purpose-built Cobalt Enterprise server and includes comprehensive technical support and standard quarterly upgrades.


Over the past few years, Cobalt Retail has grown rapidly, developed and designed by our skilled team, to incorporate all of our combined industry knowledge and draw on the latest technological infrastructure. Our primary aim is to help our clients successfully understand and build their businesses, using the tools within our system.

Our clients today are spread across the country, from inner city retail stores, to farming suppliers in rural Australia. We pride ourselves on providing a software solution for our diverse range of clients that remains flexible to their individual needs.

Our priority, as it has always been, is to ensure we provide unparalleled and personalised customer service. Our clients play an integral role in system upgrades, and we listen carefully to their feedback and requests when planning developments. Ongoing training and development is also provided so our clients can extend their knowledge and use the system to its full potential. Most importantly, our support team is dedicated to ensuring that all of our clients can easily resolve technical difficulties and run their business to maximum efficiency.

Managing Director

Louise was appointed as Managing Director of Merlin Software in 2003 and has been steadily guiding the overall direction and strategy of the company, ensuring Merlin continues to provide outstanding and personalised customer service. Louise was born in Adelaide, then lived in Memphis, Tennessee for 4 years years, before returning in 2000. Louise worked at Channel 9 for eight years as a news archivist before moving into sales and marketing. She has a wealth of experience in customer service strategies, marketing and event organisation. When she’s not in the office, Louise is busy swimming and travelling – but more often than not, she’s just keeping up with her six children (and one grandchild).

Brad has been at Merlin Software since 2006. After starting in a support role, he is now General Manager, working to guide the company’s strategic direction across sales, support and development. Brad has a strong background of working in the software, technology, retail and hospitality industries. Brad is born and bred in Adelaide, although did live in London for a year while exploring Europe and Africa. When not in the office, Brad enjoys water skiing, watching movies, following the Crows (of course) and keeping up with the latest technologies.

Development Manager

Dwayne commenced with Merlin Software in 2000 as a software developer, and now leads our Development Team. He has a Diploma of Information Technology (Software Development) and Diploma of Management, with more than 20 years of experience of working in IT, he is a true asset to our company. Dwayne specialises in Microsoft .Net software development, web technologies and managing Window and Linux server environments.  With interests in Overseas Travel, Motorsports, PC/Console Gaming and Bernese Mountain Dogs, Dwayne’s life is always busy.

Sam Roberts

Sam Roberts

Operations Manager

Sam was born in Yeppoon in Central Queensland before moving to Brisbane as a young adult. He started with Merlin as a support technician in the Brisbane office over seven years ago, before relocating to Adelaide in 2010. As Operations Manager, Sam now oversees the Sales and Accounts Departments, as well as providing essential insight to our support and development work. He has a Diploma in IT and Certificate IV in Networking. When out of the office, Sam enjoys listening to music, watching TV, renovating his house and spending time with his dog Umar.
